Description
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is a totally solvent-free, ready-to-use, ultra-quick drying, one-component light blue, synthetic resin-based paste in water dispersion.
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is easy to apply using a long-haired roller, brush, or trowel on horizontal, sloping, and vertical surfaces. Mapelastic AquaDefense dries very quickly to form a flexible membrane without a sticky surface. It is resistant to light pedestrian traffic after just 3 hours and forms an excellent grip with all types of adhesive for laying ceramic, stone material, and mosaic of all kinds. The flexible nature of Mapelastic AquaDefense helps it withstand normal movements caused by expansion and shrinkage of the substrate due to temperature variations and vibration.
• Tiles laid on floors waterproofed with Mapelastic AquaDefense by using C2F-class MAPEI adhesives (such as Keraquick Maxi S1, Ultralite S1 Flex Quick, etc.) and grouted with Ultracolor Plus can be opened to pedestrian traffic within 12 hours of starting the work.
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is resistant to water, lime water (pH >12), and detergents commonly used for cleaning residential environments.

Features
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is supplied ready to use.
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is a rapid product: .
   - resists rain water 1 hour after applying the first coat and 3 hours after applying the second coat.
   - ceramic may be bonded after 4 hours (at +23°C and 50% R.H. when applied on a dry screed with less than 3% residual moisture).
• Mapelastic AquaDefense is elastic: at +23°C it has a 3.2 mm crack-bridging capacity without reinforcement.
• Color: light blue
• Consumption: 1 kg/m² for two coats (1.3 kg/m² per mm of thickness).
• Packaging: 15kg/pail.

Where To Use
Waterproofing before applying ceramic, stone, and mosaic coverings in:
▪ bathrooms and shower cubicles;
▪ laundry rooms;
▪ saunas and damp environments in general;
▪ balconies and terraces.
Mapelastic AquaDefense can be applied on:
▪ concrete;
▪ cementitious screeds and screeds made using special binders (Topcem, Topcem Pronto, Mapecem, or Mapecem Pronto);
▪ plasterboard (for application in interior only);
▪ old ceramic tiles, terrazzo, and stone material;
▪ cementitious render.

Some application examples
▪ Bathrooms and Showers:
   - Shower Stalls: Apply AquaDefense on shower walls and floors to create a waterproof layer that protects substrates from constant moisture exposure.
   - Bathtub Surrounds: Use AquaDefense on walls surrounding a bathtub to prevent water seepage and moisture damage.
   - Bathroom Floors: Suitable for bathroom floors, especially in areas around sinks, toilets, and bathtubs where water spills frequently.
▪ Kitchens:
   - Backsplashes: Apply AquaDefense behind the kitchen sink and along countertops to prevent moisture damage to the walls.
   - Floor Areas Around Dishwashers and Sinks: Protect areas under and around kitchen sinks or dishwashers from accidental leaks.
▪ Laundry Rooms: Flooring and Wall Protection: AquaDefense is excellent for waterproofing the floor area beneath washing machines and laundry sinks, where leaks or overflow can damage subfloors and walls.
▪ Balconies and Terraces:
   - Outdoor Tiles: For tiled balconies and terraces, AquaDefense creates a waterproof membrane that prevents water from penetrating and causing damage to the substrate, especially beneficial in freeze-thaw cycles.
   - Edge and Wall Junctions: Apply AquaDefense along joints and seams to protect against water seepage and pooling in exterior environments.
▪ Swimming Pools and Water Features:
   - Pool Decks and Surrounds: AquaDefense is suitable for waterproofing decks around swimming pools, water fountains, and spas to protect concrete or other substrates from water infiltration.
   - Waterproofing the Shell Before Tiling: Use AquaDefense on the concrete or masonry pool shell before tiling to ensure a watertight installation.
▪ Wet Rooms: Full-Room Waterproofing: Wet rooms, or bathrooms without shower enclosures, benefit from AquaDefense on all walls and floors to prevent water from damaging walls or adjoining rooms.
▪ Basements: Below Grade Walls and Floors: In basements or areas below grade, AquaDefense can be used on walls and floors to prevent groundwater penetration, moisture issues, or mold growth.

Recommendations
▪ Do not apply Mapelastic AquaDefense if the temperature is lower than +5°C.
▪ Mapelastic AquaDefense must always be covered with ceramic, mosaic or stone.
▪ Do not apply Mapelastic AquaDefense on cementitious substrates with residual humidity higher than 3% or subject to recurring rising damp.
▪ Do not apply Mapelastic AquaDefense on crumbly cementitious substrates, old floors that are not well bonded to the substrate or surface treatments which could affect the bond.
▪ Do not use Mapelastic AquaDefense to cover cracks.
▪ Protect the surface from rain for at least 1 hour after applying the first coat and 3 hours after applying the second coat (times refer to +23°C and 50% relative air humidity when the product is applied on dried screeds with residual moisture lower than 3%).
